St Nectaire is famous for its Roman Church dating back to the 12th century, you can also visit the house of Saint Nectaire to see how the cheese, bearing the name of St Nectaire, is produced. Opposite the Hotel in Grotte du Corndore is the old Roman baths and in Fonteines Petrifiantes you can see how, over the last 200 years, statues have been made out of sand taken from the water flowing through the hills into the local rivers. While in the region you must not miss Chateau Murol to visit the various grottos and special in the summertime when the whole village celebrates The Feast of the Knight. but please check the date of this event, if you wish to be there at that time. For those interested in Castles, there are some 50 in the region but, to avoid disappointment, first check the dates and opening times with the Tourist Centre |
